Hi, my name's Jock Dalby, I live in Wellington and I am a web developer.
A little about me....
In May 2015, I left a successful career in the hospitality industry in search of new challenges and a better quality of life.
Soon after, while working on a new hospitality based start-up, myself and two other co-founders were invited to Lightning Lab, Christchurch, 2015, NZ’s premiere business accelerator. Over the course of the 12-weeks programme, we successfully launched and operated the company MightyGem.com, but were unable to secure enough capital investment on Demo Day.
Lightning Lab & MightyGem allowed me realise my passion for innovation, technology, entrepreneurship and most importantly, coding. After leaving the lab in November 2015, I studied hard to increase my knowledge & understanding of the web dev industry, and completed several courses on Codecademy and Treehouse to further develop my technical skills.
When I became confident enough of my coding passion and technical abilities, I enrolled in Dev Academy, Wellington, June 2016 Cohort (aka Kokako). Both, my hospitality career and my time at Lightning Lab involved long hours, creative thinking and intensive, high-pressure environments. These are the kind of places in which I thrive, and what attracted me to the Dev Academy programme.
Dev Academy is an immersive 18-week bootcamp, which accelerates the learning process and gets students ready to secure their first job in the tech industry. I will be recording my experiences through a series of blogposts (time permitting), and if anyone has any questions, insights or feedback it would be great to hear from you.
